Celebrate Christmas and welcome the New Year with an unforgettable adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro. This 6-day climbing package via the Marangu Route offers a special opportunity to enjoy the festive season while challenging yourself to reach the highest point in Africa.
1. Celebrate the Festive Season Differently
Instead of spending Christmas and New Year in the usual way, enjoy a meaningful adventure surrounded by Tanzania's beautiful mountain scenery. It is an opportunity to create lasting memories and begin the new year with a personal achievement.
2. Experience the Famous Marangu Route
The Marangu Route is one of the most popular routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Along the way, you will walk through lush rainforest, experience changing mountain landscapes, and enjoy views of the mountain as you approach the higher camps.
3. Enjoy Mountain Hut Accommodation
Unlike routes that mainly use tents, the Marangu Route offers overnight stays in mountain huts. These provide a designated place to sleep and rest during your climb, making the route appealing to travelers who prefer hut accommodation.
4. Allow More Time for Acclimatization
This 6-day itinerary includes an additional acclimatization day compared with the standard 5-day Marangu itinerary. Allowing more time for your body to adjust to the altitude can improve your chances of reaching the summit, although altitude sickness remains possible and success is never guaranteed.
5. Climb with Professional Mountain Support
With Morishas Tours & Safaris, you will be supported by experienced mountain guides and a dedicated mountain crew. They help manage the climbing schedule, meals, camp arrangements, and mountain safety procedures throughout your journey.
6. A Memorable Adventure for Different Travelers
Whether you are traveling alone, with your partner, with friends, or as part of a group, this Christmas and New Year climb offers an opportunity to share an extraordinary experience and celebrate your achievement together.
7. Begin the New Year with an Achievement to Remember
Reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters is a remarkable milestone. Standing on the Roof of Africa can make your holiday season especially meaningful and give you an inspiring story to carry into the year ahead.
Choose Morishas Tours & Safaris for assistance in planning your Christmas and New Year Kilimanjaro adventure, from preparing for the climb to organizing your mountain experience.

Morishas Tours & Safaris arranges accommodation to make your Christmas and New Year Kilimanjaro climbing experience comfortable and well organized, both before and after the climb.

2. Mountain Hut Accommodation During the Climb
Throughout the six-day Marangu Route climbing itinerary, you will stay in designated mountain huts. These provide shared sleeping facilities and a place to rest after each day's trek.
Accommodation along the route includes Mandara Hut, Horombo Hut, and Kibo Hut, with overnight stops determined by the itinerary.

3. Hotel Accommodation After the Climb
After descending from Mount Kilimanjaro, you will enjoy one night in a hotel in Moshi or Arusha. This gives you time to take a shower, rest, celebrate your achievement, and recover after the climb before continuing your journey.

Meals During the Climb
During the mountain trek, our team provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner according to the daily climbing schedule. Meals are prepared to provide energy for the physical demands of trekking at high altitude.
The mountain menu generally includes a combination of carbohydrates, vegetables, fruit, and protein-rich foods. Hot drinks are also provided as arranged by the mountain team.
Drinking Water
Drinking water is provided during the climb according to the package arrangements. Climbers should drink regularly throughout the day to support hydration at altitude.

Our goal is to make sure you are well rested, properly nourished, and ready to enjoy your Christmas and New Year adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Christmas and New Year are exciting times to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, offering an opportunity to celebrate the festive season while experiencing one of Africa's greatest adventures. Late December and early January fall within a generally popular climbing period, although mountain weather can change quickly and conditions are never guaranteed.
December Climbing Conditions
December often brings a mix of sunshine, clouds, and occasional rain, particularly in the lower rainforest zone. As you climb higher, temperatures drop, and you may encounter snow and icy conditions near the summit. Proper clothing and suitable mountain equipment are essential.
Why Choose the Festive Season?
Is the Marangu Route Suitable During This Period?
The Marangu Route is available for climbing throughout the year, subject to park operations and prevailing conditions. Its established mountain huts offer overnight accommodation, making it a popular choice for climbers who prefer huts instead of camping.
However, the festive season can be busy, so booking in advance is recommended to help secure your preferred dates and accommodation arrangements.
Important Preparation Advice
Bring warm layers, waterproof clothing, sturdy hiking boots, gloves, and a warm sleeping system suitable for the conditions. Follow your guide's advice, walk at a steady pace, and allow your body time to adjust to the altitude.
With proper preparation and support from Morishas Tours & Safaris, your Christmas and New Year climb can become a truly memorable experience.

Preparing the right equipment is an important part of a successful Mount Kilimanjaro climbing adventure. Temperatures and weather conditions change significantly as you ascend, from the warm, humid rainforest to the cold, high-altitude environment near Uhuru Peak.
For your Christmas and New Year climb with Morishas Tours & Safaris, we recommend bringing the following essential items.
1. Clothing
2. Footwear
3. Personal Equipment
4. Personal Hygiene and Toiletries
5. Health and Safety Essentials
6. Snacks and Personal Items
7. Important Packing Advice
Pack for changing weather and keep essential items protected in waterproof bags. Your daypack should contain items you may need during the day's hike, including water, snacks, rain protection, warm layers, and sunscreen.
The Marangu Route provides mountain hut accommodation, but you should confirm whether a sleeping bag and any other equipment are included in your particular package.
Morishas Tours & Safaris can assist with an equipment check before departure and help arrange rental equipment when needed. Please share any equipment questions with our team before your climb so you can prepare properly.
Our recommendation: Do not wait until arrival to organize essential clothing and footwear. Preparing early helps you feel more confident and comfortable throughout your Christmas and New Year Kilimanjaro adventure.
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is an exciting and rewarding adventure, but it requires physical preparation, proper acclimatization, and respect for the mountain environment. At Morishas Tours & Safaris, we encourage every climber to prioritize safety throughout their Christmas and New Year adventure via the Marangu Route.
1. Walk Slowly and Maintain a Comfortable Pace
Your mountain guides will encourage you to walk slowly and steadily, following the principle of pole pole, a Swahili expression meaning “slowly, slowly.” A comfortable pace helps you manage your energy and adapt to the increasing altitude.
2. Allow Your Body to Acclimatize
As you ascend, the amount of available oxygen decreases. This can affect anyone, regardless of fitness level or previous hiking experience. Follow your guide's schedule, drink fluids regularly, eat your meals, and rest when necessary.
The six-day itinerary provides more acclimatization time than the standard five-day Marangu itinerary, but altitude-related illness can still occur.
3. Recognize the Signs of Altitude Sickness
Common symptoms can include headaches, nausea, dizziness, unusual fatigue, and loss of appetite. Tell your guide immediately if you experience symptoms or feel unwell.
Confusion, difficulty walking straight, breathlessness at rest, or a worsening condition may indicate a serious emergency. These symptoms require immediate medical assessment and descent as directed by the mountain team. Never continue ascending when altitude sickness is suspected.
4. Follow Your Mountain Guides' Instructions
Your guides will monitor your condition, explain daily trekking procedures, and advise when to rest, continue, or descend. Follow their instructions and be honest about how you feel throughout the climb.
Reaching Uhuru Peak is a goal, but your health and safety must always come first.
5. Prepare Physically Before the Climb
Regular walking, hiking, stair climbing, and cardiovascular exercise can help you prepare for the demands of Kilimanjaro. Practice walking for several hours and become comfortable using your hiking boots and backpack before travelling.
You do not need to be an elite athlete, but a reasonable level of fitness and appropriate preparation are important.
6. Stay Hydrated and Eat Regularly
Drink water throughout the day and eat the meals provided by the mountain team. Carry suitable snacks for additional energy during long trekking days, particularly on summit day.
7. Be Prepared for Changing Weather
Mountain weather can change quickly, especially at higher elevations. Wear appropriate layers, carry waterproof clothing, protect yourself from the sun, and use warm gloves and headwear when temperatures drop.
8. Protect the Mountain Environment
Help preserve Mount Kilimanjaro by following park regulations, disposing of waste responsibly, avoiding damage to vegetation, and respecting wildlife and other climbers. Leave the mountain as clean as you found it.
9. Have Appropriate Travel Insurance
Ensure your insurance covers high-altitude trekking to the elevation of Kilimanjaro and emergency evacuation. Confirm the policy limits and exclusions before travelling to Tanzania.
Our Commitment
Morishas Tours & Safaris works with mountain guides and crew to help organize a responsible climbing experience. We encourage careful preparation, clear communication, and respect for safety decisions throughout your journey.
With proper preparation and a responsible approach, you can enjoy the remarkable landscapes of Mount Kilimanjaro while making your safety a priority.

1. Is Christmas and New Year a good time to climb Mount Kilimanjaro?
Yes. Late December and early January are popular periods for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. You can enjoy the festive season while experiencing the mountain's beautiful landscapes. However, weather conditions can change, so proper preparation is essential.
2. How long is the Marangu Route climbing package?
The climbing itinerary takes 6 days. The package also includes one hotel night before the climb and one hotel night after the climb, making the overall stay longer than the six mountain days.
3. Is the Marangu Route suitable for beginners?
Yes, beginners with suitable fitness and preparation can attempt the Marangu Route. However, climbing Kilimanjaro is physically demanding, and the altitude presents challenges regardless of experience. Training and following your guide's advice are important.
4. What makes the Marangu Route different from other Kilimanjaro routes?
The Marangu Route is known for its established mountain huts, which provide shared sleeping accommodation instead of overnight camping. It also passes through rainforest, moorland, and high-altitude landscapes on the way to the summit.
5. Will I reach Uhuru Peak during the six-day climb?
The goal is to reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, the highest point in Africa. However, summit success cannot be guaranteed because altitude sickness, weather, and individual health can affect the climb. Your guide will prioritize your safety throughout the journey.
6. What accommodation is included in the package?
The package includes mountain hut accommodation during the climb, one hotel night before the climb, and one hotel night after descending. Additional hotel nights can be arranged on request, and guests who prefer to book their own accommodation should discuss their arrangements with our team.

10. Can I combine my Kilimanjaro climb with a Tanzania safari or Zanzibar holiday?

11. What should I do to prepare for the climb?
Start training several weeks or months in advance with regular walking, hiking, stair climbing, and cardiovascular exercise. Bring suitable layered clothing, stay hydrated, and follow your guide's instructions. You should also arrange travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation.

Your guide will set a comfortable walking pace and allow time for short breaks, photography, and enjoying the natural surroundings. After approximately four to five hours of hiking, you will arrive at Mandara Hut, where you can settle into your mountain accommodation.
If time and weather conditions permit, you may take a short optional walk to Maundi Crater for beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
In the evening, enjoy a freshly prepared mountain dinner before resting for the next day's climb.
Christmas & New Year Experience: Begin your festive-season adventure surrounded by the peaceful beauty of Kilimanjaro's rainforest, away from the usual holiday routine.
Elevation: 2,700 m to 3,720 m
Distance: Approximately 12 km
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
Habitat: Heath and Moorland
Accommodation: Horombo Hut
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
After breakfast at Mandara Hut, you will continue your journey toward Horombo Hut. The trail gradually leaves the dense rainforest and opens into heathland and high moorland, revealing a different side of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Along the way, you will encounter unique high-altitude vegetation, including giant heathers and giant groundsels in suitable areas. As you gain elevation, the landscape becomes more open, with impressive views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks when the weather is clear.
Your guide will encourage you to walk slowly and steadily to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude. Regular breaks will give you time to drink water, enjoy the scenery, and take photographs.
After approximately five to seven hours of trekking, you will reach Horombo Hut, situated at around 3,720 metres above sea level. Here, you will have time to relax, enjoy your meals, and take in the spectacular mountain surroundings.
Dinner will be served at the hut, followed by an overnight stay as you prepare for the following day's acclimatization activities.
Christmas & New Year Experience: Enjoy the festive season among Kilimanjaro's remarkable mountain landscapes, with opportunities to share stories and experiences with fellow climbers.

Optional Hiking Distance: Approximately 4–6 km, depending on the route taken
Optional Hiking Time: Approximately 2–4 hours
Habitat: High Moorland
Accommodation: Horombo Hut
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
This day is dedicated to acclimatization, giving your body additional time to adjust to the higher altitude before continuing toward Kibo Hut and the summit.
After breakfast, your guide may lead you on an acclimatization hike toward Zebra Rocks, a striking natural formation known for its distinctive black-and-white striped appearance. The walk offers opportunities to observe the unique high-altitude environment and enjoy views of the surrounding mountain peaks.
The hike is conducted at a comfortable pace, with regular breaks and guidance from your mountain team. Your guide will assess how you are feeling and adjust the activity according to your condition and the prevailing mountain circumstances.
After returning to Horombo Hut, you will have time to relax, enjoy lunch, drink enough fluids, and prepare your equipment for the next stage of the climb.
Your guide will also check your general well-being and discuss the importance of recognizing altitude-related symptoms. If you experience symptoms of altitude sickness, report them immediately rather than pushing yourself to continue.
In the evening, enjoy dinner at the hut before getting a good night's rest.
Why This Day Matters: The additional acclimatization day is an important feature of the six-day Marangu itinerary. It gives you more time to adapt to the altitude, although it cannot eliminate the risk of altitude sickness or guarantee reaching the summit.
Elevation: 3,720 m to approximately 4,700 m
Distance: Approximately 10–15 km, depending on the route and trail measurements used
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours

As you progress, your guide will maintain a steady pace and encourage you to conserve energy for the demanding summit climb. You will take regular breaks to drink water, have snacks, and monitor how you feel at the higher altitude.
Upon arrival at Kibo Hut, you will settle into the mountain accommodation and have time to rest. Your mountain crew will provide an early dinner, and your guide will explain the summit schedule, equipment requirements, and safety procedures for the night ahead.
You should organize your warm clothing, headlamp, gloves, water, snacks, and other essential summit equipment before going to bed. The summit attempt usually begins around midnight or shortly afterward, depending on the guide's assessment and conditions.
Important Preparation: Rest as much as possible, follow your guide's instructions, and report any unusual symptoms before the summit attempt.
Starting Elevation: Approximately 4,700 m
Highest Point: Uhuru Peak, 5,895 m
Overnight Elevation: Approximately 3,720 m
Hiking Time: Approximately 12–16 hours in total
Habitat: Alpine Desert, Arctic Summit Zone, and Moorland
Accommodation: Horombo Hut
Meals: Breakfast or a light pre-climb meal, summit snacks, and meals arranged by the mountain team
Today is the most challenging and memorable day of your Christmas and New Year Kilimanjaro adventure.
You will wake up around midnight for your summit attempt. After a light meal and final equipment check, you will begin climbing under the stars with your professional mountain guide. The trail ascends slowly through steep, rocky terrain toward Hans Meyer Cave and eventually Gilman's Point, located on the crater rim at approximately 5,685 metres.
The climb is physically demanding because of the steep trail, cold temperatures, darkness, and reduced oxygen availability at high altitude. Your guide will maintain a careful pace, provide encouragement, and monitor your condition throughout the ascent.
After reaching Gilman's Point, you will continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 metres above sea level.
Reaching Uhuru Peak is a remarkable achievement. You will have time for summit photographs and to appreciate the incredible surroundings, weather and conditions permitting. If your summit attempt takes place during Christmas or New Year, you may celebrate the occasion at the summit, provided the schedule, safety conditions, and weather allow it.
After celebrating your achievement, you will begin descending toward Kibo Hut and continue down to Horombo Hut. The descent is long and requires care, especially as you may be tired after the summit attempt.
Upon reaching Horombo Hut, you will enjoy a well-deserved meal and rest overnight.
Important Safety Note: Summit success cannot be guaranteed. If you develop concerning altitude symptoms or your guide determines that continuing is unsafe, the climb may need to be stopped or turned around.
Elevation: Approximately 3,720 m to 1,870 m
Distance: Approximately 18–20 km
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
Habitat: Moorland and Montane Rainforest
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch, depending on the final arrangements
After breakfast at Horombo Hut, you will begin your final descent toward Marangu Gate. This is your last day on Mount Kilimanjaro, giving you time to reflect on the journey, the challenges you overcame, and the experiences you shared during the festive season.
The trail takes you through the moorland before returning to the lush rainforest encountered on your first day. Along the way, you can enjoy the changing scenery and take photographs during suitable breaks.
Upon reaching Mandara Hut, you may stop for a short rest before continuing toward Marangu Gate.
At the gate, your guide will complete the necessary exit procedures. Climbers who qualify for summit certificates will receive the appropriate certificate according to the highest point reached and the park's certification requirements.
After saying farewell to your mountain crew, you will meet your driver for the arranged transfer back to Moshi.
Your six-day Kilimanjaro adventure concludes with wonderful memories of the mountain and a special way to celebrate the Christmas and New Year season.
Congratulations on completing your Kilimanjaro adventure with Morishas Tours & Safaris.
